Henley Symphony Orchestra autumn concert
St Mary's Church, Henley, Saturday November 16

"Conducted by guest conductor, Margarita Mikhailova, the programme was upbeat and joyous - and full of love: for country (Dvorak), for two women (Mahler), for life (Coates, in his rhapsody).

...

Ms Mikhailova told the audience that Blumine, the first of two pieces by Mahler, means "blooming" and, indeed, the orchestra started as it meant to proceed, filling the church with colour and beauty through this lyrical piece which the composer wrote as a love letter to a muse.

...

This was a hugely enjoyable and energising concert, presented by Mikhailova, who deftly brought out musical light and shade, conducting with verve. By the end, the orchestra was enfolded in the celebratory atmosphere it had created, and the audience roared its approval."
