Margarita Mikhailova joins the renowned Bristol Concert Orchestra as guest conductor for a midsummer evening of expressive vocal and orchestral works, showcasing the lyrical and dramatic power of early 20th-century music.

This special performance features celebrated soprano Daniella Sicari and baritone Jonathan Eyers, who will bring to life selections from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn – a collection of poignant and whimsical songs inspired by German folk poetry.

Also on the programme is Britten’s Symphonic Suite from Gloriana, op. 53a – a bold, evocative work originally composed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, full of regal splendour and subtle complexity.

The concert concludes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9, a wry and compact masterwork filled with wit, satire, and emotional contrasts – a thrilling ride for performers and audiences alike.

This marks an exciting collaboration between Margarita Mikhailova and one of Bristol’s most established and dynamic orchestras. Founded in the 1940s and known today for its ambitious programming and artistic excellence, Bristol Concert Orchestra enters a new era, welcoming distinguished guest conductors for the 2024–25 season.

Don’t miss this memorable evening of vocal brilliance and orchestral colour in the beautiful setting of St Alban’s, Redland.
